Saturday was grand. Really. Who wouldn't want to spend 5 hours of a raging blizzard getting cozy with
restless boys, a few dogs, and cats? Not having heat, electricity, or water, really added to the family
chaos fun.
Taking decent pictures of quick moving boys, in a power outage, is a little challenging. |
The boys work off some energy with a quick game of No-Contact Air Ninja during the power outage. |
After working off some physical energy, it was time to get creative. Brian helped the boys draft and build paper boats. These aren't your grandpa's paper boats!
Yes, the lights and heat are on in this picture. They started the project the night before. |

While chaos was reigning in the living room and I was feeling inspired by this post
http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2011/01/stashing.html, I decided reorganizing my fabric stash seemed like a low-key way to spend the forced inside time. If you can use any of these (mostly fat quarters) of fabric,
leave a comment telling me what your favorite sewing tool/notion/trick is and tell me the fabric that you want. If you need me to ship it to you, I will. I want to see these neglected fatties go to a home where they will be appreciated.

3 fat quarters of Nicey Jane-one of my favorite fabric lines. I've used this yellowish green and blue fabric in a quilt and it adds a nice pop when used in moderation.-Sending it your way Erika!
Amy Butler "Love" - 2 fat quarters-For Marjorie!
Orange and Gold Joel Dewberry "Modern Meadow" - One fat quarter |
More Modern Meadow, green and brown- 3 fat quarters |
Amy Butler "Love"- 3 fat quarters-Sending these your way Tammy and Jenny!
Moda "Berry Delicious" - 42 X 22 inch piece-Going to Tammy!
42X39 inch piece-This is a really beautiful fabric. The colors don't show well here and the centers of the flowers have some sparkle. I made some baby kimono shirts out of this for a friend. |
If you don't have a favorite notion or sewing tip,
tell me how you spent your last storm day, don't forget to tell me which fabrics you want. The odds are good-not a whole lot of readers here so I am sure everyone will get something they want!
Krista! It's Erika :) My last snow day was 2.5 weeks ago--no power and no water so I didn't want to go outside and get cold if I couldn't come in and warm up, and I was trying not to think about using the bathroom since there was no flushing, and for some reason in that situation all I can think about is using the bathroom... So, I read my whole page-a-day calendar. That shared, I love all your fat quarters! And if you sent me one, I would give it to my coworker who quilts like crazy and would use it and be so happy to have it :)
ReplyDeleteErika, I love your user name! I was really confused at first though. =) That's is so funny that you read through your planner. You crack me up. I so can relate to the bathroom thing. It seemed like everyone in the house had to use it more than usual only because it was non functional. Ewww. I'll get some of these in the mail to you. PM me your address on my facebook page.
DeleteBTW-Are you going to get one of those blogs up and running soon? I love the names you chose.
DeleteI am seriously considering writing a blog :) So far I just like coming up with names but I've been making a mental list of blog topics for weeks so I'm almost there!
DeleteYou can't get rid of these Krista! I'm so bad, I beg people for their scraps. I need some sort of intervention. That being admitted too, I have a huge crush on the Modern Meadow with the large trees. Sigh... So my new favorite sewing item is my ruffler foot. A close second is my new ultra glide foot-it seriously slides right over oilcloth. Also, that Amy Butler Love would make a cute owl. Or headband. Or pin cushion. Stop me. Please.
ReplyDeleteYou feel my pain then Jenny! I love all of these fabric lines but just don't work with these colors much and I knew someone out there would love them. It does make me feel better knowing that out of my huge fabric stash, these were the only ones I could live without. I'll send that tree/bird fabric your way. I have some in a different color way that I will never part with. =) You can PM me your mailing address or I can just send it to my mom and she can get it to you. Let me know.
DeleteI would be happy to give either of your paisley's a home. I love paisley's. My most useful tip is to press at trim at every step when piecing a quilt. I got in that habit when I did a very fussy piecing project and ever since my piecing looks a lot better.
ReplyDeleteMarjorie, email me your mailing address and I will send them to you! kmarvin35@gmail.com
DeleteHi Krista,
ReplyDeleteI need the Moda "Berry Delicious" and the Amy Butler "Love" fat quarters. My absolute favourite quilting notion is little metal thread snips. I buy them at the sewing machine shop for $2.50 each and use them constantly. Send me your address and I'll send you a pair.
Tammy, email me your mailing address and I will get those sent to you ASAP! I have never heard of thread snips like that. I'd love to try them! Thanks! I'll give you my address on your blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Krista,
ReplyDeleteThe lovely fat quarters arrived on Friday.. I'm delighted with them. Got your address off the parcel. Thread snips will be mailed tomorrow.
Hi Tammy! I got a wonderful surprise in the mail last week! Thank you so much for the BEAUTIFUL bag (I LOVE IT!) and the thread snips and money for postage (totally not expected!). It made my week! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYour welcome Krista. I'm so glad you liked the bag. I was happy to help with the postage it was way too much. Did you try the thread snips?
